What is Digital Object Architecture (DOA)?
Digital Object Architecture (DOA) provides efficient digital information management in a network environment. It has the capability to create persistent digital identifier (DOI) for any type of objects (physical or digital) such as digitalized/Physical version of paper, movie, and phones….etc. Each digital identifier is associated with metadata to describe the object. These metadata could be design to meet the user needs to retrieve information of that object over long period. The Metadata may include access restrictions, ownership notices, and other more to provide efficient security .
The DOI is resolved by binding DOI to metadata about the object to indicate where the object can be found such as a URL. Thus, it makes the DOI actionable, interoperable, and distinguished from other identifier schemes.
DOA is an open architecture and it is technology neutral
Where DOA is used?
The DOA technology has been implementing in couple of Industries such as publications,Construction, and retailers.
The early stages of the DOI implementation was to transform former libraries to digital. Each publication assigned a Digital Object Identifier, this digital identifier redirects users to the right publication, with ability to provide more than one URL that hold the publication and display information such as Author, title…etc. Eventually, the technology development and pilot projects have taken the DOA to an upgrade level.
One of the successful DOI use cases is for keeping track of material and goods to maintain its description and details consistence when it moves between vendors and any interested party. As a result, high efficiency information management and a mature tracking system have solved a significant issue for these industries.
Some other prospect initiatives is utilizing DOI in Hospitals and Governments to keep personal information consistence and accessible in corporation with all interested parties that authorized.
Ultimately, DOI produces a developed secure digital information management system, which converts to digitalized and efficient services.
